Located right on the border with Italy and Austria Nassfeld Ski Arena is a little known gem of a resort in the sunny province of Carinthia.
Nassfeld has a good snow record thanks to its high altitude and comprehensive snow canon coverage and can boast to being Carinthia’s largest and most modern ski resort as well as being up there in Austria’s top ten.
The Millennium Express gondola is the longest in Europe and takes just 17 minutes to transport you to an altitude in excess of 2,000m.
From here you will experience stunning views of both the Austrian and Italian Alps and have access to 110km of snow sure pistes to suite all levels of skier with the option of some great off piste into Italy.
The longest run, the “Carnia,” is 7.6km long and you can even try night skiing as 2.2km of the run is floodlit every Wednesday night, making it the longest floodlit piste in the Alps.
Boarders are also well catered for. There are two parks with quarter pipes, kickers, table tops and a snow cross park which was the venue of the 2004 Junior World Championships.
There is an excellent English speaking ski/board school for beginners or those of you wanting to improve your on-slope skills.
There are 14 mountain restaurants and bars where you can enjoy the famous Austrian hospitality, cuisine and also sample delicacies from nearby Italy and Slovenia.
There are plenty of lively après ski bars you can visit as you make your way down the mountain. The Baren Hütte near the gondola base holds daily après ski parties that go on until late.
You can skate on Europe’s largest natural ice rink, Lake Weissensee, take a toboggan run or hire some of the alternative snow equipment on the mountain like sledges, rubber tubes, snowbikes, airboard or skifox.
